CAPTCHA stands for Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.  It is a type of challenge test used on websites to verify that the transaction taking place, or the comment being posted, is in fact being performed by a human and not generated by a computer.  CAPTCHAs are used to block bots and prevent comment spam, registration spam, contract form spam, scrapers from stealing email addresses, dictionary password search attacks, servers getting bogged down by spam and malicious scripts, search engine bots from accessing private data on web pages, and corruption of online polls and contests.

In the past, your only option for this type of test was the twisted or distorted text CAPTCHA, but they produce an awful experience for a user and are quite bad at stopping bots.

With the PlayThru, you finally have an option that is simple, intuitive, and fun for your users while increasing the security against bots.

The PlayThru is the next generation of online human verification.  It is designed to be more simple, more intuitive, and more fun than the current CAPTCHA options.  We use game mechanics to create an experience that is more enjoyable than solving that awful squiggly text.

Because a user interacts with PlayThru, we can track that interaction and make a better determination of whether that user is a human or not.  We combine all that data and generate a Human Confidence Score: our level of confidence that the user is an actual human.

Absolutely!  We have built a highly scalable and redundant architecture that we have load tested to the most extreme situations.  However, if you have an exceptionally large amount of traffic, please give us a heads up.

PlayThru uses Adobe Flash, HTML5, and JavaScript to serve its games.  It automatically checks a user’s browser specs and serves the appropriate game.

In fact, the PlayThru is more secure than CAPTCHA because the PlayThru requires over five levels of interaction with the game versus simple optical character recognition for CAPTCHA.  In addition, a bot does not know the specific type of game it will be served at any one time.  We have many games with different instructions in rotation at any one time, and a bot has no idea what he will get in any instance.

Our games are made to be simple and intuitive, all of which decrease the time required to solve a PlayThru versus regular, distorted word CAPTCHAs.  On average, it takes a user 10-12 seconds to complete a PlayThru, and 16 seconds to complete a CAPTCHA.

Great question!  PlayThru has been developed to work in a mobile environment, and we will continue to optimize it for mobile.  We also plan to release a version for in-app use.

For our color-blind users, PlayThru has multiple levels of visual identification that someone can use to identify the correct images.  This includes the shape and markings of the objects.

For our visually impaired users, we have an audio fallback that conforms to screen-reader technology.  We are also in the process of developing audio games, so stay tuned.  We want the visually impaired to have the same great experience that everyone has with PlayThru!
